Felix Oppen Announced as Print & Publications Juror

Co-Owner & Creative Director / Tiliqua Press

Felix's first contact with design was as a child seeing his artist grandmother's wood block prints and later mucking about on an old Heidelberg platen press in high school, printing Linotype slugs in reflex blue (the only colour available). His family has historically been involved in printmaking (and other visual arts) on his father's side and on his mother's side printing (newspapers and books).

Before settling down to study Graphic Design at the Billy Blue he studied Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, several languages and Economics. During the mid 2000s he completed a Masters of Design at UTS. In addition to graphic design he has also worked as a barman and a clerk in a courthouse.

His design focus has been on identity design, typography, information design, editorial design, teaching and recently, letterpress.

Felix has taught at UTS and Billy Blue—typeface design, typography, identity development, brand management, data visualisation, wayfinding, pre-press and more. For many of these subjects he has written course materials as part of degree program redesigns.

He is a co-author of ‘Graphic Design: Australian Style Manual’.

As co-owner of Tiliqua Press he is publisher and co-editor of the design magazine ‘Ligature Journal’.
